Another preciosity from the amazing Exist Dance catalogue made readily available to your record collections in newly remastered format. On the A side, “We're Go” is a 3 stage piece of breaky prowess developing throughout a total of almost 13 minutes spiraling around a catchy cosmonautic vocal sample. B1 brings a quintessential Rave energy to the table with samples from live crowds echoing over high octane break rhythms, would be hard to stand still for the duration of this - highly effective on a dance floor. B2 takes a turn towards more introspective moods as it brings in psychedelic elements intertwined with “world music” samples. Very much characteristic of the distinguished Kandel/Chasteen Exist Dance sound. West coast early 90's rave at its best, can't go wrong. “Recorded in Heaven, in 1991, according to the label.”

Montreal’s sapphic mixxtress, the elusive mogul Maara, unveils her debut full length LP via Step Ball Chain. A pairing written in the stars, with twelve dynamically diverse and emotive soundscapes of downtempo bliss, spine-chilling drum and bass and elevated electronica - timeless anthems for sonic indulgence and reflection. Take a deep dive into the sensually charged inner workings of the already prolific producer’s mind.An effervescent atmosphere envelopes it’s way through the records entirety, whether it be gloriously lush pads, melancholic words and whispers from her own lips or subterrantian bass. Maara’s world of sound showcases the wild spectrum of emotion, the empathetic passion of joy in Awaken, Plum Plum and Sapphic Rehabilitation Centre alongside the darkness of Insidious Force or Rough ‘N’ Ready. But like most things, the purest beauty can be found within the grey areas, where majority of this records lies. A powerful ebb and flow between cloudy twilight and it’s recurring silver lining, Nothing Sacred wraps you around it’s finger whilst Erotics Of Betrayal pulls you in unexpected directions sure to conjure feelings you didn’t know existed.A masterfully united album from start to finish, each listen unveils endless intricacy, delicately and deliciously revealing the potent DNA of Maara.
Alex Neri strikes back with another well rounded EP. He is a Master of the craft, with clear prowess for the grooves, and the right balance of emotion and punch. A true italian trailblazer in top form.
You could say, ahem, that Infiltrate has infiltrated deep into our conscious with its fine run of releases as we are well and truly locked in to the output each and every time. As far as we can tell, both of these artists are new names who are making their first releases here - or they are at least appearing on Juno for the first time. But the music is so impressive we find it hard to believe this is their debut. Cyphon kicks off with the tight, twitchy electro workout that is 'Hegemony' which Gene Harvest mixes into something more full fat and celestial. Konertymi's 'Valtameri' is a rich, colourful world of freeform melodic arps and arching heavenly chords while Astraali Suunnittelu could be a Kraftwerk does modern electro tune.
EYA Records further stretches its stellar run of showcasing young, cutting-edge talent for their latest label outing, and continues to shape modern influential club sounds with Swedish-based newcomer, Eric OS.Delivering red-hot, futuristic progressive rhythms with a sleek and propulsive melodic flair, this is a first-class statement selection of impressively mature and vibrant sounds, for only his second fully-fledged EP.The title track “Spellbound” dispatches shadowy, hypnotic fairground melodies, and hints of 80’s synth-pop stylings, with a wicked, pulsating, electrified energy aimed squarely at serious dancefloors. “The Machine” brings a more introspective moment on A2; with crunchier drums and crystalline deep electro motifs, full of rich, inviting moods. On the other side “Closer” is a clubby, amped-up bass driver, with layers of bouncing peak time sounds, melted vocal snippets and intoxicating organs. And B2 “Maraton” stylishly rounds off the EP with haunting call-and-response synth lines, for a blissed-out early morning afterparty feel. Expertly intelligent dancefloor electronics. With a firm finger on the pulse yet again from London-based EYA Records, Eric OS treats us to a notably strong debut offering of imposing, smart and robust club music. Don’t miss it!
Distrito 91 presents the second installment of its Various Artists compilation series; "Our Own Algorithm" VOL.2. Side A offers three highly dancefloor electro cuts with heavy basslines, killer drums and dreamy synth pads signed by Fabio Vinuesa, KafkaCtrl and Hoax Believers. Side B follows with the electro-funk vibe of “Telekkomunikation” and “Deep Sea” by DJ Unisex and Friedrich Ernst from Self Learning System Crew.
Those lockdown silver linings continue to reveal themselves when we least expect it... As proved, once again, by the inimitable Amsterdam techno HQ Deeptrax as they present this stunning analog exploration from scene stalwart Mark Peeters AKA Caim. Inspired, created and sculpted during those strange times when none of us could rave, Caim simply describes the moment by saying the 'clubs were closed, but creativity kept on floating'... Now that floatation is bequeathed to us through these warm, rolling and wide-armed frequencies. Tapping into a spirit that goes right back to Detroit and Chicago, there's an understated groovemanship at play as Calm jams out on the same instruments house and techno forefathers used to sculpt this culture.? Music to get lost inside of, music to take away the stresses of the day, music that's a joy to mix, weave and tell stories with... Caim has created another timeless collection of grooves that could resonate with or relate to any period in the last 35 years of dance music culture.? From the warm, opening rumbles of 'Nepi' to closing rippling dubwise echoes of 'Kapura', very few stones are left unturned as Caim tells a tale of the ages that we can all float to. Here's to silver linings. ?
