For AC004, we’re delighted to welcome Glasgow’s Modus to Alien Communications with the Super-Kamio EP.

For AC004, we’re delighted to welcome Glasgow’s Modus to Alien Communications – for what’s planned to be the first of many collaborations. The Super-Kamio EP sees him delve into deeper territory, setting aside the pacy techno of recent releases for something a little more introspective.

The title track, inspired by the Super-Kamiokande neutrino observatory, kicks things off with snappy drums and melodies which continue to evolve over the next 8 minutes. ‘Breeze’ lightens the tone with an arpeggiated baseline and playful melodies, whilst ‘Off The Grid’ heads into dance floor territory with syncronated stabs and warm pads bringing the track, and release, to a climax.

Arsonist Recorder lands on 20/20 Vision with his debut EP ‘Geist’. Following outings on Specimen Records, Diffuse Reality, Bass Agenda and his own imprint ZwaarteKracht. The EP sees Arsonist Recorder continue his exploration into groovy dark-matter electro- beats and abstract, abrasive sound-design. The title track ‘Geist’ kicks things off with deep Drexciyan bass and disorientating synth, an all out electro assault on the senses that sets the pace for the four track EP. ‘YvY’ follows this up like a 90% proof chaser, committing you to the land of no return as perfectly crafted drum patterns lay down heavy robotic funk with driving bass lines complimented by a peppering dark synth melodies. On the flip side ‘Rauch’ switches things up with rapid fire pad work, serving up fast paced breaks in a dose of hyper speed electro grooves. Wrapping things up E-606 forges an evocative robotic war cry, firing on all cylinders with restlessness club-rocking rhythms. With previous releases catching the attention of the late Andrew Weatherall as well as Detroit’s electro Don, DJ Stingray, Arsonist Recorder is definitely not one to sleep on!

Mathew Jonson studied classical piano as a kid and, as well as learning jazz drumming, played drums in a marching band. We only mention this because the influence of all three is still very much in evidence in the infectious house music that the Berlin-based producer makes. The signature melody of 'Spaceport 23' is a jazzy organ riff, which lands it a carefree, frisky air, but of course his grasp of tight, economic beats and beautifully balanced, pleasing-to-the-ear composition also play their parts. 'Spaceport 23-Z' doesn't veer far from the original, but adds a sheen of Detroit-esque synth magic, while those who favour the tech in their tech house will probably want to head for the more synthetic, electrified vibes of 'Spaceport 23-X'.
