One Eye Witness’ maiden VA drop gathers a quartet of the international producers who’ve come to pique our interest in recent months.

Casting its net far and wide, from Australia to Finland, via the UK and Tunisia, One Eye Witness’ maiden VA drop gathers a quartet of the international producers who’ve come to pique our interest in recent months.

Starting with Tunis-based up-and-comer HearThug, who steps up with “Alien All Too Alien” - a steadily pulsatory, 303-marinated dasher interlarded with flocks of pugnacious talk box stabs and rattling drums, making it a proper DJ-friendly weapon for any hour of the day. Helsinki’s Jeku follows up with the tribal acid churner ‘Aftermath’, laying down a sleek, sub-heavy earworm prepped on submerging systems from under the deepest layers of the spectrum with its fluttering melody, sturdy basswork and FX-laden synthesis.

Flip the coin over and here goes London-based groove manipulator Sohrab, entering the melee with ‘Ataraxia’ - a hypnotic slice of stealth mode, Gaussian-blurred dub techno that does exactly what’s written on the tin. The final number ’Surrender’ comes courtesy of rising Sydney-based producer Cousin, who treats us to a tripped-out ethereal riddim making the rounds betwixt the vaporous serenity of ambient and deep dub vibrations. The endearing final brushstroke to OEW’s first Zeitgeistian snapshot.

Mastered by Marco at Analogcut. Artwork by Susanne Janssen.

Overthink Records start the new repress series with this gem from Bryan Zentz as Bryan Never, originally released on Psychoactive Records in 1997. Dark Rooms EP is the perfect combination of the sound of electro, breaks & techno with a touch of ambient (in the track A3).
Originally released on Axis records! This story takes place around the year 3216, in which space travel is something completely contemporary. Humanity is going too far in pushing Mother Nature's boundaries, and now the planet is in danger. Only one person is capable of saving Earth from destruction. Our protagonist travels to other planets to see if there is anything that can aid him in calling the downfall of our home world to a halt. The fragments on this disc are actually snapshots, made in between traveling, amid the rushing realization that a resolution to save the planet must be found. Quickly. DJ Surgeles has a longstanding professional relationship with Detroit legend Jeff Mills. Connected through music, DJ Surgeles learned the insides and tricks of Jeff. Many conversations and meetings over the years led to this new concept, The Escape Velocity. DJ Surgeles has also collaborated exclusively with Jeff Mills on the concepts Something in The Sky and STRMRKD, and produced a special Axis Records 10 year anniversary release, The Bells: DJ Mix back in 2007. I wanna thank Jeff Mills for making this album happen.
Back in the mid to late 90’s, Dallas’s Troy Anderson aka Waverider, DFD, Cityboy released a couple of twelves in small quantities on 1200 Music. We’re now bringing the in-demand Cityboy release back to life with a re-release via We’re Going Back records.
It was maybe only a matter of time before DJs Luca Lozano and Dawl collaborated on a record, the two artists have been circling each other in orbit for years now. 'Cybernetik Synergy' plays on the virtual space created between the two producers while working online, the tracks on the EP were sketched out, passed back and forth in folders until they were finished...meaning the artists never actually met in person. The result is both bleepy and breaky, its a rave record that takes in the duo's influences and love of old classic dance hits. The theme of technocractic collaboration is developed further by the final (vinyl-only) track, a collection of separate stems from the A1 that enable the listeners to be able remix the tracks themselves and then send in to the label via the QR code on the sleeve.
New imprint Sweet Notes begins its story with the french duo QR Code for their very first release!‘Mindless Dance’ is a catchy tune with a deep seductive laidback atmosphere overhung by a pumping house beat to keep the audience sexy. ‘Nixie’s Trap’ takes the pressure up a notch with class, its deep tones and regular twists are sure to keep any dance floor hot at any time.On the B-side, IDL, half of the duo, takes the controls with even different flavors to spice up this EP. Breaking the rhythm, ‘Spacetime’ shakes the heads and mixes the emotions by alternating between mellowness and energy. Finally ‘Day 55’ closes this first chapter with a deep and mysterious approach. Screaming acid and soft pads that will make you close your eyes and dive into intense reflections.
