BRUCE, K-LONE, RHYTHMIC THEORY AND GLANCES line-up on this tearing 12" comp. TIP!The 12" brings these four artists who have close ties to Chris Farrell’s Bristol based label and shop.Bruce with a contemplative dancefloor dub in tribute to Alex T, esteemed Leeds record shop worker and DJ - sadly taken from us too young.K-LONE delivers a subtle and subby house roller.Rhythmic Theory makes a final appearance with a bumpy and bassy techno track.Glances bring a deft funkiness to the broken techno sound. This is the end of a chapter. Off The Grid christens its record label with a first release composed by very close people to the heart of its functioning. On the A1 we find a melancholic optimist house cut, made in collaboration by Ancut, head-mastering engineer from Analogcut, and Onirik, OTG’s head honcho. A2 features Onirik’s solo offering, a trippy dreamy off kilter cut, ideal for warm-up or early hours. The B-side belongs to Views, already responsible for a couple of releases on Garage Hermétique, one of the founding labels of Off The Grid, who wraps up two tracks full of atmospherical punchiness, clubby IDM, with his signature acid basslines and storytelling.
General Ludd sculpt bizarre auditory mazes built within the fracturing constraints of western dance musics. These tremors ripple from the dear green place of Glasgow, Scotland; beguiling a physical cathartic experience for the dancer disillusioned with the horror and folly of our times.
In a world characterised by the mundane, novelty is an increasingly hard-pressed experience to find. But somehow, French DJ/producer Karaba seems to know exactly how to balance the precipitous contest between technicality and innovation. For the 16th release on Haŵs, Karaba writes a love letter to 90s tech house and the underground Parisian scene from his home town in Lille. Sewing together intricate synths, trippy breaks and rumbling tech house loops into an abstract tapestry, the final result is a collection of dancefloor curveballs that somehow, with all the idiosyncrasies, make total sense.'Belly Pad’ is a sharp opener, with a never-ending spiral of kaleidoscopic grooves and instinctively plaited synths. ‘Transform’ has all the charm of a delightfully subterranean level in an old-school video game, positioning rebellious acid lines into a playful, malevolent swing. On the B-side, ‘Digital Mystery’ slips into woozy breakbeat and dark psychedelia that bubbles up through a deliciously addictive bassline and melodies that coil back into itself. To close, ‘Club Simulator’ marks itself as a thoughtful statement on the paradox of creative flow; it’s self-aware but allows itself to get lost in a sky-high trip of lofty synths and rhythms, before touching back down safely to the ground. The ride might at times feel like the driver’s lost control – but in reality they know exactly what they’re doing to push the edge of the thrill just at the right moments.
