Guiding weary travelers through an enchanting interdimensional odyssey, Work The Peripheral’s debut long player ‘Like Lava’ finds a treasured home on Companion. Building on the foundation of four exceptional self-released EPs, WTP continues his exploration into the world of ambient trance. ‘Like Lava’ unfolds across nine tracks that expand and contract through imagined astral landscapes, showcasing WTP’s deft ability to create deep and absorbing techno trips. Hypnotic in manifold ways, ‘Like Lava’ is a release made for getting lost in. Each track referencing the next, this hour-long journey glides through blissful realms of trance, ambient techno and house - deep basslines, muted breaks and spacious subdued percussion are unified by WTP’s characteristic ubiquitous and sparkling atmospheres. This is an expert expression of the Companion ethos. By drawing inspiration from the likes of Robert Leiner, Speedy J and Index ID, WTP wields the language of tripped out 90s electronica to allow spellbound listeners the time to contemplate, space to travel and a place to dream.

Initially born in 2016 with a number of warehouse and DIY events, the Leeds based collective set sights on their label vision during 2017-2020 after opening a studio within the infamous Mabgate Mills. The debut EP captures the tales of many hours of expression spent within Mabgate via four artists closely connected to the project. Rising producer and Perspective boss Kepler brings a dreamy-tinged vision to the A-side, alongside the talented Midge Thompson bringing that lively Leeds energy. Residents Nikol and Keefy G mark their debut release on the flip side with two vibrant jams concluding this versatile EP.

Next up on the firmly consistent EYA Records sublabel, Lonewolf, Jos continues to deliver a seemingly endless supply of cutting-edge club electronics, with another four-track heater from a mysterious up-and-coming artist. This time in the form of Japanese talent, Riku Sugimoto, brings a refreshing and pinpoint perspective on retro-futuristic sounds.With an EP full of video-game synthesis, flawless syncopated bleeps, and bouncy bass details permeated with rave energy. It is slick and pacey progressive records across both sides.Starting with the soaring electro melodies on ‘Carefree Wonder’, and the angular 90’s house stabs of ‘Limestone Plateau’ crossed with ultra-modern acid sounds, make it guaranteed to deliver dancefloor reactions.Another laser precise club record from the EYA stable of producers that continue to go from strength to strength in 2022 and beyond.

“Somaesthesia” is for the body, for how the body feels and how the body communicates with its soul. It was written through a year of growth and sickness, which stimmed inflection to a body at rest, a body aroused, a body communicating needs, a body happy, a homeostatic body, a friend body.These four songs drift through different dimensions of somatic sensation. Deep corporal sensuality, spectrums of control of self, identity, and their relation to others, plateau, release, extra sensorial touch, extraterrestrial encounter, novelty, experiment, finding self where you thought you stood alone, finding self in bass, basing self in body.Do not disembody, hold closeness to body, trust body, body as a litmus, body as a truth, truth as unmovable, unmovable as grounded, rooted, dense body, flesh body, REAL body, this is your body, feel your body feel.

For more than twenty years, Roel Funcken has been a cornerstone in electronic experimentation. Alongside his brother Don, this Dutch sound sculptor melted hip-hop, industrial and soundscapes under monikers like Funckarma and Shadow Huntaz. A prolific solo musician and collaborator as well, Funcken teams up with Cor Bolten to revive the Legiac project with the eight tracks of Banisteriopsis Caapi. Keys appear through a sorrowful haze in "Mimosa Hostilis", this machined mist difussing as distorted strings penetrate before a dawning of icy brightness. Modulated forms and shapes billow in the bubble and trill of "Pyschotria Viridis" before the orbiting interference and introspection of "Epicatechine." Percussion is reduced to a texture, the duo finding structure in droplets of water, the stretch of steel and a litany of field recordings. The partnership dive deep into their chosen sounds, elongating and expanding tones to find harmony in the absence and isolation that is their focus. Pieces like "Solanaceae" bristle with an understated elegance, like starlight piercing a brooding night sky, while "Banisteriopsis Caapi" finds an eerie solace in its repurposing of voice as an undulating elegy. Legiac achieve a distant intimacy with their listener, a relationship forged through complex compositions, gentle movements and subtle shifts.
