Vimana takes flight with Aprieta: a collection of polyrhythmic dance tracks produced by Phran. The EP is the physical manifestation of a movement started in 2015 with gatherings in Barcelona and Berlin and was composed in collaboration with friends and artists residing around Barcelona’s Poblenou district.The tracks on side A contain restrained grooves with deep dembow jams. ‘Aprieta’, ‘Mazatech’ and ‘Sons’ feature collaborations from oma totem (Hivern Discs), Tunik (My Own Jupiter) andRibes.Side B starts off with a remix of the title track ‘Aprieta’ by Dengue Dengue Dengue, before providing the mystical club cuts ‘Faylan’ and ‘Syntorama’, featuring ELO (aka DJ Leeon) and Ribes.Mixed by Ribes & Phran. The Vimana label image was crafted by Planet Luke (Klasse Wrecks, Graffiti Tapes). Vimana is distributed by One Eye Witness.

Adam Pits is back with his second album on Leeds based On Rotation ‘Synthetic Serenity’ represents the next evolutionary step of Adam’s sound design and direction. In stark contrast to his first album, ‘A Recurring Nature’, this new release moves out of the forest and into the digital landscape, capturing the sound of a future world over 8 varied tracks. Adam Pits talks about the inspiration behind the new album:“It’s hard to put into words how much of an impact 2022 had on my life. I could talk for hours about the highs and lows, the journeys, both inside and out of my body. Or I could just make an album. Having delved into the deeper reaches of techno and ambient, I wanted to show my appreciation for these genres on the record. Atmosphere, clarity and warmth became the pillars of my new sonic exploration, with stress falling on my signature ‘journeying’ style. The album describes the idea of being at peace with machines and being open to the idea that in the future we will find ourselves more and more involved with one another. ‘Synthetic Serenity’ is a product of a big energy release. It’s a testament to my acceptance of change in life and I believe it’s a true sign of my sonic evolution”

The primer of techno was barely dry or England already had its own variant of the genre: UK techno. Original Man by British producer Dave Angel is perhaps the perfect example of what that variant sounded like, back then. If only you knew where to find it. The single was released in 1993 on a record label that has long since ceased to exist. Fortunately, Utrecht-based record label SoHaSo made this transverse techno-soul classic available again, in a punchy remaster. With its juxtaposed rhythm programming and orchestral arrangements, Original Man still lives up to its title, even if it is 30 years later. On the flip you'll find Quarter Pounder. With its nervous hi-hats and high paced rhythms, this seems like the perfect soundtrack for a highway chase between two roadhouses. As a bonus, SoHaSo has supplemented the vinyl version of this EP with a rare Dave Angel track which also was released back in 1993 on French dance label FNAC. It's called 4th Symphony and ticks all the right techno boxes: strings, hihats and a melancholic melody. If you wanna learn more about UK techno, you might as well start with this wonderful re-release.

Firing up the next outing on Anthea’s Partisan is the 2nd in the series of split EPs from the label. The A side made by French Producers Lamalice and Massaï under their project and duo moniker: Smooth Operators. And the B1 & B2 made by Lamalice alone.
