The seventh series of OLO Records by Miroloja and Janeret.
As we reach the 10th release milestone for the STRWB00 series, we proudly present nothing short of some of the best tracks to ever land in our inbox. Dedicated to his first-born Laura, Philip takes us on a journey through his curation of dubbed out atmospheric deep house and techy goodies. Sub-heavy bass notes, hypnotic conga grooves & echo-chambered pads, moans & tones, this EP is built for those blue bird happy hours, sunrise sessions or any deep club journey in between. A very special first release from Mr. Chernikov!
Originally released digitally in August 2020 and supported by DJ Stingray, Martin Gore (Depeche Mode), Manni Dee, Rommek and Tapefeed, OBSCUUR is thrilled to present the vinyl issue of Catartsis & Otone's split EP "Mechanical Gesture". Catartsis and Otone explore, both in their collaborative and respective work, a wide spectrum of electronic and electroacoustic music with the practices of field recording and attentive listening at the core of their creative process. Inspired by musique concrete and electroacoustic sonic manipulations, they combine and alter sounds from the real, from their surroundings and from found (mainly metallic) objects. Stemming from this approach, they engage in rhythmical and textural research to elaborate a - peculiar, acousmatic and almost tangible - percussive and club-oriented music. With "Mechanical Gesture" Catartsis & Otone bring us an EP that is the very definition of the word "groove" while investigating rhythms and timbres from various mechanical apparatuses. Press, slice and carve your way through this assortment, it's guaranteed to get you moving.
2023 marks the tenth year of Music From Memory; a decade of groundbreaking archival releases, cross-generational collaborations and long-standing creative partnerships with our ever-expanding community of artists. To celebrate this milestone, earlier this year we asked our roster of artists to submit a piece of music for an anniversary compilation. As submissions gradually came in, we were blown away by what we received and slowly began to piece them together into what was to become “10”.Featuring work from artists who were present during the formation of the label, such as Gigi Masin, Joan Bibiloni and Michal Turtle, as well as artists like The Zenmenn, RAMZi and Dea, who have helped the label expand over subsequent years, “10” serves as a natural bookmark of where we are musically, whilst simultaneously reflecting on the label's rich musical past.In keeping with the Music From Memory ethos, the music of “10” spans both time and space, with submissions ranging from Vito Ricci's 'Da Hamptons' (1985) to Yu Su & J. Wilson's 'Mitti Atar' (2023). It crosses the globe, with a total of 10 countries represented across 17 tracks. The final result is an immersive musical compilation that flows perfectly from start to finish.Tragically, during the last few weeks of finalising MFM066, label co-owner Jamie Tiller passed away in a sudden accident. “10” was always intended to be a way to reflect on the journey of Music From Memory. The fact that it is now also one of the last releases that the team all worked on together adds a whole other level of reflection and makes it all the more special.* incl. insert liner notes by John Gómez) Artwork by Bráulio Amado. Munich based producer Polygonia presents 'Otro Mundo'. An exciting pack of extraordinary sonic pieces driven by intense rhythms with a strong focus on sound design and colorful harmonies. Next to her intriguing Grey Area works on this record, she also weaves two four to the floor productions into this collection, all featuring complex works on the drums and juicy sound aesthetics. The story begins with 'Otro Mundo,' as Polygonia extends a harmonious and melancholic invitation, blending her own layered vocals with organic dubby beats, creating a captivating otherworldly atmosphere. Throughout the EP, Polygonia's distinct percussion and inventive sound design shine brightly. 'Mind Alteration' and 'Implosion Of The Known' lead the listener through mesmerizing groove-scapes, elevating perception to new heights. As the EP unfolds, 'Never Have I Seen...' offers a metaphysical experience, unveiling unknown marvels through rhythmic shifts. The record comes with an impressive sleeve designed by Dimitri Erhard, representing the window to the other world. Released on Bambounou's Bambe label.
For album number four on Rezpektiva we once again turn to our man Quaid. After his magical representation of intelligent music for REZLP2two this time we present an album featuring music recorded before those sessions. Ben Naylor aka Quaid (The OG btw) quickly became disillusioned with the music industry and made a career change of direction leaving behind hours worth of studio sessions on DAT. We have managed to put together another 8 tracks from those unreleased sessions and present them here on a 2x12".
