Two years after its last V/A, Bamboo Shows is back with the first opus of its ‘Vapordub’ imprint series.

Two years after its last V/A, Bamboo Shows is back with the first opus of its ‘Vapordub’ imprint series. Another artifact springing from the depths of the leftfield music scene, this time focused on contemporary psychedelics.
Highly inspired by the textures of the vaporwave sonic aesthetic, this 16-track compilation displays in turns intriguing sound design, graceful synths from a new age, weird exotics and psychoactive slow-dubs.

Designed to please either curious or skilled ears, this various paves the way for a 90-minute mind wandering in distant, fantasized realms. Featuring renowned international artists, up and coming French projects and obscure aliases in the likes of A Strange Wedding & Camille Claire Olympie, Alieno deBootes, Babau, Bouti, Dean O’Brien Resorts, Dylan Henner, Georgia, Giant Grouper, Herbarium, Horn Chants, Jonnnah, Naomie Klaus, Nuke Watch, Polonius, Salamanda and Vica Pacheco.

To be published on a 2x 12” gatefold-vinyl-bundle, including marbled &-transparent waxes and a mesmerizing collaboration between Vica Pacheco for the artwork and Romain Guillo for the design.

V World is Vitess AKA Vytamin’s second album. It follows on from Cyber Zone, the Frenchman’s first LP that was released to widespread industry acclaim last year. Eight months have passed since, with several releases springing up in between. From Up The Stuss to Locus, to Pont Neuf, Shall Not Fade and more, his musical footprint is plain to see.Now the latest step will be placed in March with the release of his second LP: V World.“My first Retrofutura album, Cyber Zone, was inspired by nocturnal cities, like the progressive house side of the ‘90s. V World represents the brighter side. The LP features a strong electronic sound, with tech house touches and robotic voices that symbolise the universe of the album.” – Vytamin.Critical Battery gets proceedings underway, with four-four drum patterns forming a groove-fuelled, club-ready backbone. The near seven-minute cut feels spacey and dream-like in one, opening into the similarly ethereal world of TSD. Wavey synth pulses converge on acid-esque soundscapesthroughout, before Fake Planet arrives next.Shimmering key patterns transport us to worlds far removed from our own, leading us deep into heads down, hands up territory, whilst thick kicks marry up alongside. Unatural comes next and manifests as a fizzing, no-nonsense club cut to begin, with dreamy melodies brought in as the trackunfurls.Playful and bouncy, it sets the stage for Kangoo, a more breakbeat-esque number that draws inspiration from the French car of the same name. Robust percussion gives the track a hardened edge, paving the way for V World to come soon after.Starry female vocals help us drift into a surreal musical landscape, whilst Insane ratchets up the pace courtesy of low-slung, echoing bleeps right the way through. We’re then treated to the penultimate cut on Twister, an out-and-out club piece that swings neatly into the closing sounds of Final Warning, rounding off proceedings on a hazy, blissed-out note.Vitess is the genre-hopping DJ and producer leading the charge for France’s underground renaissance. Known under several pseudonyms, including Vytamin, Grand V and Flamant Rouge, his musical output has caught the attention of some of dance music’s leading publications, one being Resident Advisor.2022 was a particularly fruitful year for the Frenchman, with a slew of releases landing on several of the scene’s most well-known labels. Be it Shall Not Fade, Locus or Chris Stussy’s Up The Stuss, his productions prove that quality and quantity can come in equal fashion. Now V World ushers in a new era for his own Retrofutura Records imprint, picking up where Cyber Zone left off and setting the tone for a highlight year ahead.
Futuristic electro by Gerald Donald (Dopplereffekt, Drexciya) and Beta Evers, originally released on Weme, including a previously unreleased track.
We’re back with three breaky electro truffles for your reward circuit, harvested by hand by the Austrian Awo Ojiji.Fast-paced, rhythmically challenging, and spiced with euphoric synth stabs that will make your endorphins flow. Dem good, woozy feels. They’ve been neglected for too long.Superconductor instantly puts your brain in euphoric overdrive with its epic pads, reminiscent of our teens. Simpler times.Ridicoloum whacks tools on your head; it rattles, shakes, clonks and bonks. The drums, crunchier than pumpkin seeds.Everything around you starts to rumble, it’s unintentionally merciless, but satisfying af. Trust us, okay?To round off the euphoria extravaganza, Quarantini strikes a more serious note, as you slowly come to terms with a new normal. One full of full-bodied sub-bass and all them breakz that we love so much. Treat yoself.
New club music by Central (B-side feat. DJ Sports)
I met SUGAI KEN a few years ago in Tokyo, outside the Dommune radio studios. His personality and music, a very special brand, touched me. His music is a coded vision of a dream world. A trade that is progressive yet traditional - in the most positive sense of the word.Recently out of the blue, Sugai San sent me a collection of personal field recordings he made of folklore groups and public performances in Tokyo, Toyama, Kanagawa, Kyoto, Tottori, … The close listener already knows that Sugai San’s aesthetics speak of a great knowledge of these performing arts.An open invitation: “the traditional local performing arts in the 21st century intrinsically conceive “fragility” as they are vulnerable to extinction. The Japanese local performing arts that appear in this recording is no exception, endangered by the declining birth rate and aging population which are typical to the country. (SUGAI KEN)”I bring the original recordings into conversation with new elements (corresponding field recordings and or additional percussion and strings, performed by Antwerp musicians Jeroen Stevens and Roman Hiele) like a ‘monomane’ - tr. imitating – sound game. But when i throw these old and new figurines together on the podium, the objects immediately disappear in the cracks of the stage wood. Thus only the understament of the suggestion remains. And relentlessly the significance of every movement now becomes a question.Furthermore, what’s in focus? The manipulation? Or the content? Or are we zooming in on the aspect of archiving ~ preserving? Dubious. In KAGIROI – tr. heat haze - people coexist for a moment severely carved in time like a high contrast still of dancing flames. When you bring this composition home, it will never boil yet merely evaporate. And when you gaze at the clouds of condensed droplets inside your own darkness, on a soft volume, You complete our puzzle.SUGAI KEN - field recordings, liner notesLieven Martens - collage, additional sounds and field recordingsJeroen Stevens - additional percussionRoman Hiele - double bass, masteringKohei Oyamada - liner notes translation
