For their 4th venture, AGT Records presents the cosmic sounds of George T and his solar-sound-system explorations. Responsible for a multitude of club ready releases in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, you can find George Thomson’s aliases in the catalogues of legendary labels such as NRK Sound Division, Stickman Records and Glasgow Underground. Thomson’s sound is a warped fusion of disco, electro and tech-house, splicing together influences from the US tribal and UK tech house scenes that were prevalent in that golden era of electronic dance music. This is on display with ‘Some Lunar Pursuits’, as across the EP you find driving, jet-fuelled basslines that lift the tracks off the ground, while ‘Baby’ and ‘Silver’ throw about snappy percussion and dubby, reverb-drenched vocals that bring you back down to Earth and back onto the dancefloor. ‘Bass Chase’ provides a stripped-back bass heavy weapon to switch up the vibe, and title track ‘Lunar Pursuits’ is made for the afters as nostalgic synth lines float around alien house stabs, sending you back into the skies and beyond.AGT Records is putting this one back into the stratosphere, all in good time.
Pitch language - Modular synth wizard Blawan brings his brand of distorted, syncopated electronic productions. Toast introduces the EP with a playful head bopper with ethereal sounds and menacing overtones. One of the biggest acts in dance music playing international festivals such as Pitchfork 2022, ADE, Nuit Sonores. Plays from Mary Anne Hobbs on BBC 6 music and coverage from Resident Advisor, Pitchfork, Dekmantel, CRACK, The Face “losing himself in modular synthesis without ever sacrificing soul for science”1. 2023 Repress! The Canadian duo M.S.L. debuts on the Clone Dub Series with a heady 4 track ep. Produced by Priori and his partner Edouard Le, the duo delivers tracks that walk the fine line between classic headphone IDM and tripped-out early morning dance floor cuts with bleepy arpeggios, soaring strings, and shards of melodies. Very reminiscent of early F-com releases, The Black Dog, and our own harbor city duo Duplex's early works on Dub and Clone Records. A beautiful release that has been overlooked by many!
Next up on the firmly consistent EYA Records sublabel, Lonewolf, Jos continues to deliver a seemingly endless supply of cutting-edge club electronics, with another four-track heater from a mysterious up-and-coming artist. This time in the form of Japanese talent, Riku Sugimoto, brings a refreshing and pinpoint perspective on retro-futuristic sounds. With an EP full of video-game synthesis, flawless syncopated bleeps, and bouncy bass details permeated with rave energy. It is slick and pacey progressive records across both sides.Starting with the soaring electro melodies on ‘Carefree Wonder’, and the angular 90’s house stabs of ‘Limestone Plateau’ crossed with ultra-modern acid sounds, make it guaranteed to deliver dancefloor reactions.Another laser precise club record from the EYA stable of producers that continue to go from strength to strength in 2022 and beyond.
Communique Records USA sub label, SOUNDS. brings another classic release back on vinyl. This time it's the collab between DJ Skull and Label owner DJ ESP aka Woody McBride from 1996!!!
Dead Dreams Don’t Die vol 1 marks the inception of Half Grand Records, a label focused on no-frills, raw talent electronic music. This artefact contains new output from several members of legendary Borft Records. Nimam (Spregleda) gives us a riotous and exuberant Drum and Bass banger that will have your teeth jingling. Jon Doppler’s signals transform from searing blasts of psychedelia to soaring synths that will make you pine for days of yore. A Stantz drops some body music that's equal parts acid and mosh pit. The closing track is by a group specific to the label; Cracktros. Cracktros is a collaborative group project that will continue to grow as more artists join the HG fold. With this number, the collective explores fantastic textures in this riveting deep house ditty. Keep your eyes peeled on this label.
