VIL RECORDS back again with another re-issue, this time from Pop Panic. A rare gem to be re-discovered after 29 years, with new masters from the original DATs. Don't sleep, limited stock!
With her DJing and creative project Automagicalley on hiatus, Adi’s 2020 has been home to a slower kind of alchemy - the creative processing of two years’ worth of musical sense impressions into the basic fact of a needle on a record. Our dear Walrus tells the story best:“Adi picked me up from El Dorado airport around Christmas 2018. I remember that moment stuck in a hot summer traffic jam, both of us laughing at the rattling from the trunk of her dad’s car - good ears! That evening we played outside under a lemon tree at one of the first Automagicalley events, a wonderful b2b full of curiosity and honesty about art, spirituality and life. Fast forward through some Europe trips - of course including a Basic Moves party - and we arrive at this mini album. The fruit of half a year of friendly exchange between Adi, me and our magical mix engineer Chris ‘Funk’ Ferreira, it reveals Adi’s authentic spirit - always moving, forever creating and endlessly believing.”Adi herself explains the many emotions and headspaces influencing her process: the self-reflective loop of lockdown, the ebb and flow of working alone and with others, the despair of conflict and endings, the dizzy optimism of a Don Cherry album. Now these feeling-frequencies can be heard even louder around the globe.
With this release the label celebrates the return to the ranks of the founder Worg. A triumphant homecoming comparable to that of Jason, the main character of the Argonautica, who travelled in search of the Golden Fleece (Il Vello d'Oro) aboard the ship Argo. After many vicissitudes, the hero returned to Iolco, his homeland, to reclaim the throne usurped by his half-brother Pelias. This new chapter in the Lykos saga focuses on the deeds of Jason and the Argonauts, but also on a key figure who was indispensable to the success of this quest, Medea. Thanks to her and her magical skills, the fellowship of heroes succeeded in grabbing the Golden Fleece. Through careful sound design, hinted melodic cells and complex rhythms, Il Piano di Medea by Worg, sums up details and facts related to this extraordinary legend. Starting from the prophecies of the Oracles, to the tragic and bloody ending of the epic poem, which took place with the death of King Pelias by his own daughters, hypnotized and manipulated by Medea's magic. The narrative begins with the track Oracolo, characterized by a syncopated groove, nebulous atmospheres and the presence of a dark anthropomorphic synth, which alludes to the solemn, grave and authoritative voice of an entity. A prophetic spirit that warns the listener of the dangers that lurk for those who dare to enter this new sonic adventure. In order to foretell the future and to spread their word, the gods took possession of the bodies of priests who had fallen into ecstasy, using them as intermediaries. In his reinterpretation of Oracolo Neel, the grand Maestro of techno, in a similar way uses musical elements such as a harsh and acid bass line or a tight rhythm to lead the listener into a psychic state of suspension and mystical elevation. In the music piece Il Vello d'Oro, Worg draws attention to the rare preciousness of this magical relic, rumored to have the power to heal all wounds and for this reason longed by Jason. To evoke the purity of the golden mantle, the artist uses shimmering percussion, radiant textures and the omnipresence of an FM synth bass, full of brilliant harmonics. All enhanced by sound details scattered throughout the arrangement.Eryx, the record's final track, has a fluid and sinuous flow, with sound elements that recall water, a natural element, protagonist of the Argonauts' journey to the remote Colchis. A melody echoes in the distance, disappears and resurfaces to then collide, like waves on the rocks, with the complex and jagged rhythms that mark the gradual evolution of the track.
Cignol has cemented himself as one of the brightest lights in the burgeoning nu-skool electro scene, here he debuts on UTTU with 4 tracks of expertly produced deep emotional electro vibes.
Amsterdam based DJ and producer Mayo joins the Fides family with her Frenemies EP marking the 15th release of Fides Records.Mayo showcases 5 cuts of finely crafted electro and EBM-influenced Techno, it's impossible not to be drawn by her distorted voice that defines each track.Unrelenting grooves and a deeper look into her analog sound design flair, these tracks are timeless in sound and production quality.“Tell me how you die” kicks it off as the A1 with stomping analog kick and drums, a dark jumping bassline pushing the groove with ethereal synths.“Not your shadow” as the A2 strips it back into a 303Acidbass-based track marked by singular industrial sounds and Vocal Shots that are lost in the groove carried by a background synth sequence that follows throughout the track. The last track of the A Side is “Frenemies” a pulsing, meditative composition featuring label owner and Tresor resident Z.I.P.P.O, who added to Mayo's energetic, analog and eventually dark sense, a more mental, deep and intense face typical of the Italian artist. The B Side starts with Miami Legend Danny Daze’s Hell Mix of “Frenemies” in which he exhibits his unique sound design techniques, combining tribal-tinged rhythm, sharp FX that pops up from the corners of the soundscape with stretched vocals in order to highlight the track's protagonist: a modulated brass bass.Mary Lake’s Remix of “Tell Me How you Die” closes the EP with a deep kick drum driven forward with rolling and modulated closed hats that run through the track while atmospheric sounds carry the filtered Brass before dissolving into the end of the track.
Joining club-focused percussion, dubbed out landscapes and serious sub pressure. Limited pressing!
