Steven Rutter, one half of B12, returns to De:tuned with a staggering ode to the 90s UK bleep techno era. Opener "O.L.F. ResPekt" sets the bar with a respectful flashback to the trademark sound. "Rewind 273" follows the path with a pitched down composition that strengthens the rather mellow and floaty vibe. On the flip "Incredible" combines the best of both worlds, a real gem for all bleep and bass fiends in signature B12 style.Kevin Foakes (Openmind, DJ Food, Ninja Tune) created all the graphic work. Mastered by Matt Colton at Metropolis and pressed on 180 gr vinyl. A separate digital release will also be available at the usual digital shops. Stay tuned!
As a self-described “sponge for club music”, London-based Bristol transplant Ian DPM has cut a singular figure in both the West Country and the capital in just a handful of years. Already situated as the tastemaker behind music curation platform Definite Party Material, co-owner of Scuffed Recordings, and Noods Radio and Rinse FM resident, Ian DPM’s emergence as a producer has marked him as an expansively curious, bass-forward figure at the bleeding edge of genre boundaries. After retreating to his hometown of Portsmouth during lockdown to absorb the blueprints of ‘90s techno, Ian emerged with a new phase of experimentation: techno-inspired and indebted, yet eschewing loops and grids for a loose-limbed, open minded engagement of the form. Taking inspiration from the iconic carnival rides that are inseparable from their high-octane happy hardcore soundtrack, “One For The Waltzers” begins with a distant rumble of muffled breakbeats that inch ever closer. But rather than dizzying lights and in-the-red maximalism, “One For The Waltzers” gradually reveals its knowingly deep shimmy and groove. It is a drum-heavy and rhythmic production, masterfully using negative space to showcase every contour of its slowed-down rave horns and acid house synth lines. “KE01” inhabits the flipside of the same sonic world “One For The Waltzers”. Here, feverish percussive energy contrasts against pensive melodic synth chords. It’s a heady warehouse affair, familiar and complex, referential yet contemporary, and only adds to the momentum that Ian DPM is gathering.
This year marks 3 years of Needs. From humble beginnings in 2017, the label has since gone on to release tracks from some of our favourite artists in the scene, curated events with essential charities and initiatives, and in the process raised over L10,000.To mark this special occasion we're back where it all started, raising money and awareness for mental health. After four retrospective Delsin/Eevo Lute releases, Delsin proudly continues the collab with Eevo Lute co-founder Stefan Robbers. The legendary Dutch producer here uses his original Terrace moniker and presents four new tracks touching the brilliance of original Detroit Techno. Stefan Robbers was one of the very first in Europe to produce and connect with the Detroit oriented techno scene, with his debut release "916 Buena Avenue" on the legendary Djax-Up-Beats label as early as 1990. His Isolation EP brings four brand new trademark Terrace tracks. 'Sonomatic' has the original emotive Technosoul, reminding of early Model 500 works. 'Sunset Route' touches the European synth/Kraftwerk lines where 'Magic Potion' is a bright uplifting dancefloor mover. Closing track 'Voices From The Moon' finishes the pack with a more introvert and much darker approach.
Anthony Di Franco (Ramleh, Skullflower, AX) debuts on L.I.E.S. with his infamous JFK project. Starting in 1987, Di Franco was immersed in the burgeoning UK "tape exchange by mail" scene which fostered many different strains of extreme and experimental sounds being developed during this time.Initially working in a murky, decayed industrial sound, as the project has progressed to the the present, JFK has transformed the early approach into a now razor sharp, hi- fidelity, punishing wall of sound that still envelops the listener in the same way as his early music but now with a refined and massive sonic attack.Throughout Avalanche Zone's six tracks we get Di Franco in top form alternating from blistering machine gun rhythms to stand still slow beat metallic crushers with synthetic electrified drama forcing the air from the speakers demonstrating full on sound pressure. This is a welcome addition to the JFK catalog and further expands how the artists vision has developed as the years have passed. Complete and total heaviness!
