Water Locks is a tale of boats, canals, twists and turns of a quietly ever-changing life.

Following two successful dancefloor-orientated releases with remixes by Marco Shuttle and S.O.N.S., London-based label E2-E8 takes an ambient turn while remaining faithful to its ethos of putting new artists on the map. Water Locks is the debut release from Szl0, a sound artist who’s been living and breathing East London’s inspiring atmosphere and contradictions for the last 10 years.

Water Locks is a tale of boats, canals, twists and turns of a quietly ever-changing life. A misty, smoky dive into a soul in constant search for itself. For his debut album, Szl0 peeked into instincts and fantasies and crafted a series of deep live improvisations.

The beauty is in the tension: Szl0’s music is for pause and reflection, yet it’s the moment that matters. A series of intense movements firmly grounded in the here and now which, taken together, becomes bigger than the sum of its parts. A late night listening at sea.

Limited run of 50 tapes. Includes a download code with a bonus remix from E2-E8’s own Miro Sundaymusiq (“First Light” – Pacifist Techno Soul Edit) who reinvents one of Szl0’s movements and gives it an unexpected dancefloor appeal.

Anthony Shakir, Kech Harrington, Martin Bonds, and Brian Bonds recorded the Fairmount Squad EP as a side project. It was released in 1998 and played on Detroit radio station mix shows and in local gentlemen's clubs, selling out quickly and never repressed until now.Swinging street rhythms and spacey, funky basslines define this classic release.
Atelier Baros, the 6th release from DisDat, is a 3 track EP by the Romanian master of texture, harmony and rhythm, Petre Inspirescu. The three tracks appearing on DisDat 006 / Ooze 000 each respectively offer singular experiences in atmospheric house, ambient and techno storytelling. “Foc,” “Si” and “Para” are tunes for the dance floor packed with layers of composition taking us back through time to our prehistoric heritage. The sounds of “Foc” and “Si” found on side A, in tune with the sophistication we’ve come to expect from the Dis Dat label, deliver an evocative soundscape where the relationship of humankind to the mastering of the elements––fire, earth, wind and water––can be felt.“Foc” (A1) a pulsating ethnoindustrial house track which spares no time in spreading its storied web, carries strong undertones of universal harmonics alongside the immediacy of bright splashing beats and upfront melodies. With “Foc” Inspirescu awakens the mythological figure of Hephaestus, the divine smith and patron of craftsmen, bequeathing the tradition of taming of such powerful elements such as fire and iron to humankind. Conjured here are the ancient ties binding human development with the essential elements that have become inseparable from our very lives, fire and iron, water and wind, all the while implicating the listener as the present day deity carrying the fruits of age-old discoveries and historicity. The storytelling power of A1 is followed with “Si” (A2) a playful and uplifting meditative groove on the power of the sublime, the awe inspired by the experience of the grandeur found in the universal soul of all things. The full bodied sound of “Si” aided by complex organic percussion work, flightlike harmonies and metallic grooves reinforce our industrial heritage while grabbing the listener for a journey through layers of dreamlike states and spatial reflection. The pulsating techno sound of side B brings together the elements found on “Foc” and “Si” into “Para” an unmistakably tight and danceable track; “Para” has also bloomed into the inauguration of the Ooze label, which will serve as DisDat and ReSolute’s outlet for the techno colored side of the musical spectrum. “Foc si para,” as the saying goes––it doesn’t take long to feel the flight of that raging fire connecting our age to how it all began.
Turn of Phrase is rooted in place and bound by time, yet is simultaneously unstuck in both of these things. The record spans a range of locales; the remote coastal town of Morecambe and its harshly beautiful surroundings, the technicolour glamour of the heart of LA, and London - a city whose maze of contrasting environments and tunnel-visioned bustle offers a totally blank slate. The music however is anachronistic, technically guided by a strict set of rules based in time, the record’s memories and environments are allowed to wander and overlap. The familiar and the personal swirl and collide within an unfamiliar soundscape. The result acts something like a decaying memory, brief shining moments of clarity fighting against something unclear and untethered.
After a successful reintroduction for The Don earlier on in the year, Marvyn returns with another reissue of an underground UK tech house special. Three rolling tech-house cuts fit for any occasion. 300 copies.
Liege-based Gravitational Effect heralds in Reposition's 3rd release with a dazzling electro EP.The 4-tracker pays tribute to electro's intergalactic appeal, whilst simultaneously espousing a fresh take on euphoric and mind-bending dancefloor music.Across the 3 original tracks, ever-evolving synth patterns and playful melodies meet cosmic tones and finely-programmed drum patterns. For such a release, Radioactive Man fit the bill perfectly to jump on remix duties, especially considering how much the legendary producer has inspired GE's musical outlook. His take on Base Control (the most hard-hitting original on the EP) experiments cleverly with the central synth pattern, pitching this down alongside more spaced-out production throughout, to create a 7-min masterpiece of psychedelic and engaging electro.
Fresh gear from this sturdy UK producer who's causing a proper stir in good places. Regis turns out a freefrom version that holds together veteran style under all the weight.. A Very Strong EP!
