Lost Domain (DOMA15-LP)

1x Vinyl 12"

Release date: Mar 4, 2025, United Kingdom

The main influence for this project lies somewhere between Puppy Tapes, Spiral Tribe, and Hallucinator, with elements of drill woven in. Much of the music was created in a studio in Brixton during 2020-2021, as lockdown first took hold and then gradually lifted. It was during this period that Scram began, initiated alongside Julian [Fairshare, R.I.P.] and Guy [Leeway]. The impetus to start SELN with Gonz emerged from a desire to establish something more concise and solid—a dedicated platform to release their own music as a distinct sound began to take shape between Gonz, Guy, and himself.

The music itself aimed to merge the grandeur of steppers and dub with the raw energy and no-holds-barred approach of Puppy Tapes and Spiral Tribe, incorporating industrial music techniques while ensuring that the mixdowns were club-ready, with kicks and bass designed to hit effectively in a sound system environment.

All the tracks sit at 150 BPM, influenced by a period of consistently rinsing DJ Valentime$ and DJ Salazar daily—though balanced by moments of listening to Red Angel in the car en route to Woolwich. With clubs shuttered for much of the time during which these recordings were made, and Scram emerging just as legal restrictions on gatherings began to ease, it felt as if new possibilities for dance music were unfolding. There was a genuine sense of having stumbled upon the next evolution of dubstep—something that could mark a world-changing shift in the genre… or so it seemed at the time.
